A-O’Mara presents new evidence about the usefulness of guns in society in order to help gun advocates and opponents find a measure of common ground.
B-O’Mara shows the strengths of both sides of the American gun debate to help gun advocates and opponents find a measure of common ground.
C-O’Mara reviews the arguments of gun-rights advocates in depth in order to use emotional appeals to persuade the audience of the devastation of gun violence.
D-O’Mara puts statistics about gun deaths in a new light in order to shock readers into acknowledging the devastation of gun violence.
Answer:
D-O’Mara puts statistics about gun deaths in a new light in order to shock readers into acknowledging the devastation of gun violence.
Explanation:
From the article, "Gun Debate? What Gun Debate?", Mark O'Mara makes an argument about the gun problem in America. He believes that while gun-rights advocates argue that gun control would be an infringement on their rights to self-defense as enshrined in the Second Amendment, they have ignored the fact that there have been quite a number of gun-related deaths, more especially in schools.
He brings the statistic of the number of gun-related deaths each year which according to him is at 300,000 deaths per year and putting it in perspective, America lost 60,000 soldiers in the Vietnam war.
Which sentence contains the best example of understatement? O A. The principal did a double take before she shouted, "Slow down!" O B. Is it bad that I accidentally set the boss's luxury car on fire? O C. A hundred years is a century; a thousand years is a millennium. O D. Holding a $100 bill is the same as holding a live hand grenade.
Answer: B
Explanation:
"Is it bad that I accidentally set the boss's luxury car on fire?": sentence contains the best example of understatement. Thus, option B is the correct option.
What are understatements in English?Understatement is when something is said to possess a specific attribute far less than it actually does. This frequently entails making something appear smaller, less valuable, or more essential than it actually is. Professor Elena Passarello defines understatement as the antithesis of exaggeration in her video. Not a horrible video from her. It understates the case.
It's an understatement since I've just said "not bad" to something that is actually extremely good—the video on exaggeration. Understatements frequently use a technique known as linguistic irony. Verbal irony happens when what is literally uttered is different from what is meant. The literal translation of the phrase "the video is not horrible" in this instance does not accurately reflect what I mean, which is that it is really good.

Read the excerpt from "How the Grimm Brothers Saved the Fairy Tale."
Turning to the tales of the first edition, a reader might notice that many of the stories such as "The Hand with the Knife,” "How Some Children Played at Slaughtering,” and "The Children of Famine,” have nothing to do with fairies or happy endings. Instead, these are stark narratives about brutal living conditions in the nineteenth century. For instance, "The Children of Famine” begins this way:
Once upon a time there was a woman with two daughters, and they had become so poor that they no longer had even a piece of bread to put in their mouths. Their hunger became so great that their mother became unhinged and desperate. Indeed, she said to her children, "I’ve got to kill you so that I can get something to eat.”

Direct characterization, on the other hand, relies on the author's description of the character. It is the narrator telling us what that person is like - her desires, her passions, her physical appearance, her emotional state and so on. That is why, among the options provided, the one that best uses direct characterization is letter A. It is the author describing Millicent's posture. In Matched by Ally Condie
Compare and contrast the benefits and negatives of the government taking control in this way.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ♡ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
In Matched by Ally Condie, the government is very strict and your whole life is controlled by the government.
For example; you have to die at 80; your husband/wife is chosen by the "matching machine" (I forgot what it is called); you are given three pills (which the red one you must take if instructed and you can't take if they don't say so; If you don't do what they say, you will be punished; You can't really choose your life; and the things you can decide, your not ever allowed to change.
There are many negatives to this kind of government control. In Matched, the government requires you to die at 80 years old. Maybe it doesn't matter, since old people (in this book) can't really make any more accomplishments, but who doesn't want to live more? Also, your wife/husband is chosen by a machine. Would if you are not "meant to be" or would if the machine made a mistake? In the book, Cassia did not end up falling in love with Xavier. The machine made a mistake. Also, the pills are not good. The red one erases your memory. You can only take it is the Society says so, and you must take it. The blue pill kills you. Also, if you don't do what they chose for you, you are punished.
But maybe life is simpler this way. If you are killed at 80, it might be less painfull than you dying of cancer or something. Plus you won't really accomplish anything after you get old. Also, if the machine rarely ever make mistakes, you won't have to get heartbroken so many times to find the "one" because the machine already knows. About the pills, the red one erases your memory. If something bad happened, you would have to take it and forget all about that. But usually, the things the Society wants you to forget about are about rebels and their plan. The blue pills are supposed to kill you, which isn't good at all, but it might be a lesson for not being too greedy.
Overall, I think there are more negative of the government taking control in this way. People are supposed to be free; they should be able to do whatever they want; after all, it is their life. The government wants everyone to be controlled their way, so if you disobey or do not follow, the punishments are brutal. They also don't want people to know about the rebels and/or their plans, so they force people to take the red pills. And the blue pills kill you.
The government in Matched by Ally Condie has a lot of negatives and some positives.
