The Gaucho:Argentine Myth and Cowboy of the Pampas
The gaucho (GAU-choh), a rough-riding horseman, is a well-known symbol of Argentine culture. This South American cowboy began his life in the 18th century in a vast grassy plain called the pampas (PAHM-pahs). The pampas cover a fourth of Argentina's territory. They form a huge stretch of land where alfalfa and other grasses grow beneath an endless stretch of sky. Dotting the landscape are thousands of cattle.

The gaucho's life as a horseman began because cattle and horses escaped from Spanish settlements in the 16th century. Over time, the escaped animals grew into very large free-roaming herds. The gauchos caught and tamed the horses. Then they used them to catch the cattle.

Beef from these cattle wasn't exported to other countries in the early days. But the gauchos exchanged hides and tallow (the fat from cattle used to make candles and other products) for things they needed in town. The gaucho's existence was simple. Besides his clothes, his only possessions were usually a horse, a saddle, a poncho and a knife. The gaucho had a good deal of free time and developed a lifestyle of drinking, gambling and fighting with knives. Because of this lifestyle, people of the city were horrified by what the gaucho represented, so they despised him. He, in turn, felt scorn for the refined ways of city folk. But the gaucho still symbolizes the bravery and toughness of rural life and the love for freedom that his life in the pampas allowed.

Like the North American cowboy, he wears leather boots, uses spurs and carries a whip. Some gauchos wear a hat made of felt. This is called a chambergo (chahm-BAYR-goh). The gaucho's wide pants are called bombacha (bohm-BAH-chah). They are either tight at the ankle or tucked inside boots. The gaucho's poncho— made of cloth or wool — serves as clothing or as a blanket. Finally, the boleadora (boh-lay-ah-DOH-rah) is a lasso, or leather cord, with about three leather-covered balls of stone or other heavy material. The gaucho uses this to rope animals by the legs.

Living on the pampas, gauchos became experts in preparing and preserving beef. This resulted in charqui (CHAHR-kee), slices of beef that were dried in the sun and salted. The English word "jrky" comes from charqui. Because of the gaucho's history, Argentina is now famous for its roast beef dishes and barbecues.

Here is a question from the text aids: How did the gauchos get their start?
A.
They herded wild cattle and horses left by the Spanish.
B.
They sold beef to other countries.
C.
They sold ponchos made of wool to people in the city.

Answers

Answer 1

The  gauchos get their start as a herded wild cattle and horses left by the Spanish. Thus, option A is correct.

The pampas cover one-fourth of Argentina's land area. They form a vast expanse of land where alfalfa and other grasses thrive beneath an infinite sky. Thousands of cattle dot the countryside.

The gaucho's career as a horseman began in the 16th century, when livestock and horses fled from Spanish towns. The escaping animals expanded into quite big free-roaming herds over time. The horses were captured and tamed by the gauchos. They then utilized them to apprehend the livestock.

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
by Robert Louis Stevenson
Part 1

1. Mr. Utterson the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance, that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary, and yet somehow lovable. At friendly meetings, and when the wine was to his taste, something eminently human beaconed from his eye; something indeed which never found its way into his talk, but which spoke not only in these silent symbols of the after-dinner face, but more often and loudly in the acts of his life. He was austere with himself; drank gin when he was alone, to mortify a taste for vintages; and though he enjoyed the theatre, had not crossed the doors of one for twenty years. But he had an approved tolerance for others; sometimes wondering, almost with envy, at the high pressure of spirits involved in their misdeeds; and in any extremity inclined to help rather than to reprove.
2. "I incline to, Cain's heresy*," he used to say. "I let my brother go to the devil in his quaintly 'own way.'" In this character, it was frequently his fortune to be the last reputable acquaintance and the last good influence in the lives of down-going men. And to such as these, so long as they came about his chambers, he never marked a shade of change in his demeanour.
3. No doubt the feat was easy to Mr. Utterson; for he was undemonstrative at the best, and even his friendship seemed to be founded in a similar catholicity of good-nature. It is the mark of a modest man to accept his friendly circle ready-made from the hands of opportunity; and that was the lawyer's way. His friends were those of his own blood or those whom he had known the longest; his affections, like ivy, were the growth of time, they implied no aptness in the object. Hence, no doubt, the bond that united him to Mr. Richard Enfield, his distant kinsman, the well-known man about town. It was a nut to crack for many, what these two could see in each other, or what subject they could find in common. It was reported by those who encountered them in their Sunday walks, that they said nothing, looked singularly dull, and would hail with obvious relief the appearance of a friend. For all that, the two men put the greatest store by these excursions, counted them the chief jewel of each week, and not only set aside occasions of pleasure, but even resisted the calls of business, that they might enjoy them uninterrupted.
*The biblical story of Cain and Abel is a story about two brothers who gave offerings to God. Abel's offering was accepted by God, but Cain's was not. Jealous, Cain killed his brother. When God asked Cain where Abel was, Cain said, Am I my brother's keeper? By saying this, Cain implied that what his brother did was his own business. (Genesis 4:1-16)

Because of all the contradictions in this passage, what are we likely to learn about Mr. Utterson in later chapters? (5 points)

The judiciary is not superfluous or unnecessary in Hamilton's opinion. Contrarily, it is essential, yet it is in such a precarious situation that its independence must be preserved. Because it doesn't make decisions, it plays a passive role. It merely evaluates them.

This word allows Hamilton to stress the idea that the judiciary plays a naturally passive role in the government—reacting to the other branches—so its independence must be guaranteed. The word captures Hamilton's view that the judiciary is of questionable value, so it ought to be granted complete independence so it can prove its worth to the government. The word lets Hamilton suggest that the efforts of the judiciary are mostly ineffective, so it should not be linked to any other branches lest it negatively influence them. The word conveys Hamilton's belief that the judiciary's function will be irrelevant unless it is allowed to exist under the strong and guiding power of the other branches of government.

The Explanation for Each

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to an item or event that it is not literally applicable. For example, "life is a journey" is a metaphor because life is not a journey, but the comparison helps us understand life's ups and downs.Using the terms "like" or "as," a simile is a figure of speech in which two dissimilar items are clearly contrasted. A simile might say, for instance, "Her grin was as brilliant as the sun," which compares her smile to the sun.Alliteration is the repetition of the initial sound of a word in close proximity. For example, "Sally sells Seashells by the Seashore" is an example of alliteration because it repeats the "s" sound.Personification is a figure of speech in which non-human things are given human qualities. For example, "the wind whispered through the trees" is an example of personification because the wind is given the ability to speak.Imagery is language that appeals to the senses by describing the way things look, sound, feel, taste, or smell. the registered nurse is planning to delegate various tasks which actions would the rn take when delegating tasks appropriately

Answers

When delegating tasks appropriately, the Registered Nurse (RN) must first assess the client’s needs and the tasks that need to be completed. The RN must then assess the competency of each staff member and the ability of each staff member to perform the tasks without compromising patient safety.

The RN must make sure that the tasks delegated are within the scope of practice of the delegatee, and that the delegatee has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to complete the task safely. The RN must then clearly communicate the tasks to the delegatee and provide clear directions. It is important that the RN also assess the delegatee’s understanding of the tasks and provide feedback and support as needed.

Finally, the RN should follow up with the delegates to make sure that the tasks were completed correctly and safely. By following these steps, the RN is able to ensure that patients are receiving safe and appropriate care.

A Short Analysis of Emily Dickinson's 'I'm Nobody! Who are you?'

Answers

The poem's main idea—that obscurity is preferable to fame or public recognition—can be summed up very briefly as being about how it is actually rather lovely to be an Emily Nobody rather than a Somebody.

What does the poem I'm nobody, who are you have as its central theme?

This poem by Emily Dickinson is one of her shorter ones, with only two stanzas and eight lines. Self-identity and everything that goes with it is the key themes. It may imply that you are physically absent, that you have nobody, or it may mean that you are present.

Nobody is written with a capital "N," much like a name or other form of identification. Thus, the idea of being nobody as an identity already contains a contradiction.
