Sor Juana esta desesperada/enojada de que el mundo este en contra de ella por ser monja y escribir sus pensamientos . En aquellla epoca no era bien visto que las mujeres fueran educadas y mucho menos escritoras , por lo tanto ella se pregunta que por que cuando solo esta tratando de expresar la belleza de su interior y no la exterior , es mal vista .

El poema refleja la constante lucha de la mujer para que no se refieran a ella como un objeto, debido a su belleza, a su tono de piel o sus ojos, sino como un ser pensante que puede adquirir conocimiento más allá de lo imaginable y, por lo tanto, no requiere de ninguna subestimación y mucho menos de las riquezas o elogios que un hombre pueda brindarle.

El tono del poema es de protesta, una demanda al mundo en general por encasillar a la mujer en una visión restringida, la cual dificulta la libertad de la mujer y la posibilidad de acceder a nuevos horizontes, por lo cual la sublevación literaria es uno de los caminos tomados.
