She was previously the Deputy First Minister of Scotland, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) and is a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow Govan.

Nicola Sturgeon studied at the University of Glasgow and attempted to become a Member of Parliament at the 1992 and 1997 General Elections. In 1999, she became an MSP representing the Glasgow region. On its members' behalf, the L.A.W. campaigned for separate bicycle paths in cities and pointed out to farmers that better rural roads would save their horses from injury. The smooth surfaces, claimed the organization, would also allow farmers to use fewer horses to move their goods to market, resulting in an annual saving of $700 million on horse feed alone. Before long, farmers stood squarely with the L.A.W. in the campaign for better roads. For their trouble, they saw the farmland along newly paved roads double in value. We often characterize adolescents as impulsive, reckless and emotionally unstable. We used to attribute this behavior to “raging hormones.” More recently, it’s been popular in some scientific circles to explain adolescent behavior as the result of an imbalance in the development of the brain.
According to this theory, the prefrontal cortex, the center of the brain’s cognitive-control system, matures more slowly than the limbic system, which governs desires and appetites including drives for food and sex. This creates an imbalance in the adolescent brain that leads to even more impulsive and risky behavior than seen in children — or so the theory goes.
This idea has gained currency to the point where it’s become common to refer to the “teenage brain” as the source of the injuries and other maladies that arise during adolescence.
In my view, the most striking failure of the teen brain hypothesis is its conflating of important differences between different kinds of risky behavior, only a fraction of which support the notion of the impulsive, unbridled adolescent.

What has been the common explanation for teens’ risky behavior?

A.the developmental state of their brain
C.the decrease of hormones in their body
B.their focus on rewarding activities
D.their inability to recognize risky situations

When we read books, the stories in them transport us from the world we are in to the world within the pages of the book. To be transported by a book requires the reader to have an emotional response to the book, to visualise the story and eventually, become immersed in it. As a reader, I consider myself lucky to have read several books that have made me lose awareness of my existing surroundings and drawn me into the story unravelling in the book.

“There’s always room for a story that can transport people to another place.” – J.K. Rowling

When I think of being transported by a book, a recent incident comes to my mind. On a winter morning, I had boarded a train to Furkating, a small town in Assam. It was a bleak morning and the sun was a pale yellow, melting into a silver sky. In a compartment colder than December, I sat tucked in my winter clothes amidst rows of filled seats. As the train started with a jolt, I brought out a book from my overstuffed handbag and started reading the first chapter.

Soon, I was deeply engrossed in the story and before I knew it half an hour had passed… The train was starting to slow down as we had reached a station; on a cemented slab in yellow, the letters read ‘Panbari’. Some of the seats in front of me that were previously filled now lay empty. Two of the solo passengers who sat ahead of me had struck up a conversation about the weather in Dimapur – probably the place they were heading to. The winter sun was now splattered across the sky and shining over thatched-roof villages that we were fast leaving behind as the train gained momentum.

Mary Balogh describes it perfectly, “Have you ever wanted to travel back in time? I know I have. And I think that’s why historical romance is so appealing. That experience of being so immersed in the story that it feels like you’re really there: strolling along in a moonlit rose garden with a duke, or taking tea in a lady’s finely appointed drawing room. And if you’re the adventurous type (like me), perhaps you find yourself riding on a cable car in San Francisco, or exploring the canals of Venice in a gondola. Whatever the tale, these new experiences are just waiting to be discovered; beckoning you, enticing you, entreating you to pause, to sit down and to spend time between the pages of a good book.”

Hello. You forgot to enter the answer options. The options are:

"Select the two correct answers.  A) A chronological structure is used to trace the evolution of currency from past to present.  B) Problem-and-solution structure is used to explain why debit cards are most popular today.  C) The author uses comparison to show how the value of bitcoin can vary wildly.  D) The author contrasts different currencies to explain why some are worth more than others."

Answer:

A) A chronological structure is used to trace the evolution of currency from past to present.

C) The author uses comparison to show how the value of bitcoin can vary wildly.

Explanation:

The author of "From Barter to Bitcoin" begins the article with a chronological narrative that shows how Bitcoin came into being and how it has evolved over the years. This is done to situate the reader on the subject being discussed and to prepare him for the next topics that will be covered in the article.

Once the reader understands what it is and how bitcoin has evolved, the author modifies the structure of the text, stopping to approach the facts in chronological order and establishing several comparisons that make the reader understand how the value of Bitcoin is relative and changeable and how it influences the use of that currency.

Answer:

The author describes why modern forms of money are more convenient for people to use.

The text uses chronology to explain how the use of currency has changed since it was first introduced.
