Please write a paragraph in which you analyze why Malala references Alexander the Great.

In Chapter 14 of "I Am Malala", Malala makes a literary allusion to Paulo Coelho's novel "The Alchemist". By referencing "The Alchemist", Malala is emphasizing the idea of following one's personal legend or destiny in life. Scholars have suggested that the poem was likely influenced by the war-torn Europe, as well as his own experiences during World War I. Additionally, Hemingway had a habit of chronicling his experiences in his own writing, making it likely that Killed Paive was also influenced by his own personal experience during the war. Lastly, Hemingway was a lover of classical literature, so it is possible that ancient works of literature inspired him to write the poem as well.

Answer:

"The Haunting of Hill House" is a novel by Shirley Jackson, in which Dr. Montague is a scientist and researcher who seeks to study the paranormal activity in Hill House. He is portrayed as a rational thinker, who approaches the investigation of the supernatural with scientific curiosity and skepticism. On the other hand, Mrs. Montague is portrayed as being superstitious and having a tendency to jump to conclusions, lacking the rationality and scientific mindset of her husband.

Two examples of Eleanor being absorbed by Hill House are when she experiences strange and intense emotions and begins to see ghostly apparitions. For example, she feels a strong connection to the house, and finds that she is unable to leave it, even though she wants to. In addition, she begins to experience vivid and haunting dreams, which only serve to further entrench her in the grip of Hill House.

The allusion to the House of Hades in "The Haunting of Hill House" reveals that Hill House is a place of darkness, death, and suffering, just as the ancient Greek underworld was considered to be a place of darkness and suffering. This allusion serves to further underscore the sinister and oppressive nature of Hill House, and suggests that the characters are trapped in a place from which they may never escape.

"Malawi Windmill Boy With Big Fans," By Jude Sheerin, BBC

Self-taught William Kamkwamba has been feted by climate change campaigners like Al Gore and business leaders the world over.

His against-all-odds achievements are all the more remarkable considering he was forced to quit school aged 14 because his family could no longer afford the $80-a-year (£50) fees.

When he returned to his parents' small plot of farmland in the central Malawian village of Masitala, his future seemed limited.

But this was not another tale of African potential thwarted by poverty.

Defence Against Hunger
The teenager had a dream of bringing electricity and running water to his village.

And he was not prepared to wait for politicians or aid groups to do it for him. The need for action was even greater in 2002 following one of Malawi's worst droughts, which killed thousands of people and left his family on the brink of starvation.

Unable to attend school, he kept up his education by using a local library. Fascinated by science, his life changed one day when he picked up a tattered textbook and saw a picture of a windmill.

Mr Kamkwamba told the BBC News website: "I was very interested when I saw the windmill could make electricity and pump water.

"I thought: 'That could be a defence against hunger. Maybe I should build one for myself'. "

When not helping his family farm maize, he plugged away at his prototype, working by the light of a paraffin lamp in the evenings.

But his ingenious project met blank looks in his community of about 200 people.

"Many, including my mother, thought I was going crazy," he recalls. "They had never seen a windmill before. "

Shocks
Neighbours were further perplexed at the youngster spending so much time scouring rubbish tips.

"People thought I was smoking marijuana," he said. "So I told them I was only making something for juju [magic]. ' Then they said: 'Ah, I see. '"

Mr Kamkwamba, who is now 22 years old, knocked together a turbine from spare bicycle parts, a tractor fan blade and an old shock absorber, and fashioned blades from plastic pipes, flattened by being held over a fire.

"I got a few electric shocks climbing that [windmill]," says Mr Kamkwamba, ruefully recalling his months of painstaking work.

The finished product—a 5-m (16-ft) tall blue-gum-tree wood tower, swaying in the breeze over Masitala—seemed little more than a quixotic tinkerer's folly. But his neighbours' mirth turned to amazement when Mr Kamkwamba scrambled up the windmill and hooked a car light bulb to the turbine. As the blades began to spin in the breeze, the bulb flickered to life and a crowd of astonished onlookers went wild.

Soon the whiz kid's 12-watt wonder was pumping power into his family's mud brick compound.

Answer the questions after reading the passageSpeech #1 As a representative of one of the six slaveholding states, I would like to state my position on an important issue. I feel that slaves should count as part of the states population for representation in Congress. Slaves should not, however, be counted for taxation purposes. Slaves are just as much a part of a states population as women and children. Women and children cannot vote, yet they count for representation. Since the South relies on slaves for their economy, slaves should not count as part of the population for direct taxation purposes. The slave owners would go broke if this happened. Counting slaves for taxation purposes would also hurt the economy of the North. The North relies upon the South for certain raw materials, such as cotton. We of the slave holding states, therefore, feel that slaves should not count as part of the states population for taxation, but slaves should count as part of the population in determining that states representation in Congress.Speech 2 As a representative of a free state, I feel that slaves should not count in deciding representation in Congress. If the southerners feel they must own slaves, they should pay for them. Since they actually own the slaves, the slaves are their property. Since slaves are property, they should not count as part of the population for representation. I own 500 cows in the North. If slaves are property and my cows are property, then cows should also count as part of the population if slaves are to be counted. It is only fair to count slaves for taxation purposes. If people own slaves it is only fair that they are taxed for their ownership. The federal government needs the tax money and it is in the best interest of the entire nation that slaves be counted for taxation purposes.Questions:18. Where is the speaker in speech #1 from? 19.
