The next morning brought us a scene out of a movie. Fog engulfed our whole hut, leaving us in awe of the scene before our eyes. We clicked pictures and made videos to send or upload once we get back to the city.
Feeling super confident about my knowledge of village life, I volunteered to help out our hosts in the preparation of food and other household chores. My friends decided to help in some other activities while I remained stuck with the mother, preparing our meal. I love to cook and explore different cuisines so it was a process of learning for me. And it was this experience that will haunt me in the next days.
The next day, I volunteered to make the meal by myself, feeling confident about the meal I had learned from the mother. I prepared as much as I can, full of confidence that I had nailed it and even boasted to the other neighbors that I had prepared their native dish from scratch by myself. But when they ate and tasted the food, it was so horrid that no one wanted. In my overconfidence, I had mixed up all of the ingredients and had not taken into consideration the amounts needed to make a perfect taste. It was from then on that I became the butt of jokes during and after the whole trip, even from the neighbors and almost the whole village. I had never felt so embarrassed in my life.
