Whilst on the tree, he was bitten by scorpion-looking insects who invaded his clothes. Again in an instinctive show of survival, he quickly removed his clothes to avoid the sting of the attacking insects. This is a show of resilience because had he not taken those instinctive survival steps, Mark would have been killed by the buffalo and scorpion-like insects.
2) His resilience came to bear again when a tribal community known as the Tsooks captured him from the Arrow community where he lived for awhile, and locked him up in an animal pen.
He dug himself out of the animal pen and escaped briefly from the Tsooks. In a rare display of loyalty , he went back to inform the Tsook community of an impending attack from another tribal community in the jungle village
