Read the sentence from Samuel Johnson's preface to A Dictionary of the English Language. It is the fate of those who toil at the lower employments of life, to be rather driven by the fear of evil, than attracted by the prospect of good; to be exposed to censure, without hope of praise. What is the best definition of the underlined word as it is used in the sentence? a statement of wit or amusement an expression of disapproval or condemnation a sentiment of indifference or apathy an exclamation of profound admiration or esteem
ANSWER IS B- an expression of disapproval or condemnation (; since the other one is "locked" )
Note: You have already provided the answer. I will just add an explanation.
Answer:
The underlined word is "censure". The best definition for it as it is used in the sentence is:
B. an expression of disapproval or condemnation
Explanation:
The word "censure" refers to a vehement (strong) disapproval or criticism. If you censure someone for their behavior, that means you condemn such behavior and express your opinion in a severe manner to that person. However, even if we didn't know what the word means on its own, we could have chosen option B by taking the context into consideration. The author is working with opposite ideas - good and bad, censure and praise. Therefore, if praise means an expression of admiration, censure must be its opposite.

Answer:
A fact about how many calories a sixteen-ounce cup of soda contains.
Explanation:
According to a different source, these are the options that come with this question:
A story about a girl who drinks two sixteen-ounce cups of soda at lunch. An article about how soda was invented.A quotation from a parent whose child does not like soda.A fact about how many calories a sixteen-ounce cup of soda contains. In this example, the author first proposes banning soda in cups larger than sixteen ounces. However, people who oppose this argue that cities should not have this power. In order to address the counterclaim effectively, we need to provide evidence of why it is actually a good idea to ban soda in such cups. A way to show the reasoning behind this action is by sharing a fact about how many calories a sixteen-ounce cup of soda contains.

How does the main character Mark show resilience in the novel The Transall Saga? Give TWO examples from the story of Mark being resilient.
Be sure to describe, in detail, each situation in which Mark shows resilience and then explain why you believe this to be an example of resilience.
We can cite it as a situation in which Mark proved to be resilient at the very beginning of the narrative, when he enters a new world and is enslaved by the residents of that region. Instead of giving up his luck and regretting his condition, he uses this difficult time of slavery, to learn the language spoken by the local residents, so at least he would understand what his "masters" spoke, which could leave slavery more bearable. In addition, Mark uses his free time to plan an escape and he even manages to escape, but returns to warn the townspeople that she will be attacked.
Another moment when he shows that he is resilient is when he is being chased by an army, inside a forest in a world that he does not know very well. Even in a disadvantaged situation, he manages to turn things around, fight for his survival and manage to escape, always with great determination and confidence.

Which statement best reflects the shared theme of "We Grow Accustomed to the Dark" and "Sonnet 73"?
A)Awareness of uncertainty and mortality serve to make our lives more significant.
B)Twilight, sunset, and darkness affect our understanding of human nature.
C) The seasons of the year and the length of the days can influence our emotions.
D)Valuable and difficult lessons can be learned from our life experiences.
Answer:
The statement that best reflects the shared theme of both poems is:
A) Awareness of uncertainty and mortality serve to make our lives more significant.
Explanation:
Both poems use natural phenomena as a metaphor for life, difficulties, and death. In Dickinson's "We Grow Accustomed to the Dark", the speaker is talking of facing difficulties in life - the dark. When darkness comes, it confuses us for a moment, scares us into believing we won't be able to do a single thing. However, our eyes get used to it and, if we are brave, we'll move forward even when we cannot see well. In other words, no matter the hardship, life goes on. Even if it hurts, we eventually get over it or, at least, learn to accept it. We must have the courage to keep on going even when the future is not clear.
In Shakespeare's "Sonnet 73", the speaker uses seasons and the image of twilight to describe old age. Darkness, in this case, is death. According to the speaker, understanding your own and other people's mortality helps you appreciate life more. If you know someone will eventually be gone, you will be grateful for having them in your life now.
Having those summaries in mind, we can clearly conclude that the poems share the theme that uncertainty and mortality serve to make our lives more significant (letter A).

Who is the “doctor” that speaks to the judge before the hearing? What does our
knowledge about him say about Ponyboy and the hearing?
Answer:
The doctor is a psychologist. Our knowledge of him informs us that Ponyboy is in a state of psychological distress which may indicate psychological problems, moreover, we can see that the audience has the function of judging Ponyboy's psychology based on what the doctor says about him.
Explanation:
The doctor is a psychologist responsible for assessing the condition of the condition that Ponyboy is in. That's because Ponyboy is shaken and very depressed after a crime led to Johnny's death. In addition to having a very delicate psychologist, he is disturbed and in denial about everything that happened.
The audience needs to have a diagnosis of Ponyboy's psychology, so that it is possible to decide whether it is safe for him to live with Darry, or for the safety of everyone, it is best to leave them apart. For this reason, the presence of the doctor is necessary.
Read the excerpt from Blanca Flor.
The Narrator. Juanito took the thimble and started to carry the water from the lake. He worked as hard as he could, but soon he began to realize that the job really was an impossible one, and he knew he was doomed. He sat down and began to cry because his luck had abandoned him and because his parents' blessings offered no protection in that evil place. Blanca Flor watched Juanito's valiant effort to move the water. As she watched him crying, her heart was touched, and she decided to use her powers to help him. She knew that it was very dangerous to use her powers to help Juanito and to cross Don Ricardo, but she felt it was finally time to end her own torment. As Juanito cried, Blanca Flor took out her brush and began to brush his hair. She cradled Juanito in her arms and her soothing comfort soon put him to sleep . . .
[As soon as JUANITO is asleep, BLANCA FLOR gently puts his head down and leaves, taking the thimble with her.]
What do the stage directions at the end of the excerpt indicate?
Answer:
They indicate that Blanca flor is going to help juanito I think
Explanation:
The stage directions at the end of the excerpt indicate that Blanca flor is going to help juanito.
What did Gabriella predict?
Blanca Flor spat three times into the fire, indicating that she will assist them in their time of need. This act foreshadows her choice to flee Don Ricardo in order to save Juanito.
The spit is part of her power, which will aid them anytime Don Ricardo speaks her name (as we will witness in the next moments).
She would utilize her abilities to deceive Don Ricardo in order to get away from him.

Furthermore, he can punish Antigone for disobedience in any way he thinks is fair and in the way he imagines because no one will be able to stop him.
HELP ILL GIVE BRAINLIEST: Read the following passage from Muir's "Calypso Borealis" and respond to the prompt.
[2] The rarest and most beautiful of the flowering plants I discovered on this first grand excursion was Calypso borealis (the Hider of the North). I had been fording streams more and more difficult to cross and wading bogs and swamps that seemed more and more extensive and more difficult to force one's way through. Entering one of these great tamarac and arbor-vitae swamps one morning, holding a general though very crooked course by compass, struggling through tangled drooping branches and over and under broad heaps of fallen trees, I began to fear that I would not be able to reach dry ground before dark, and therefore would have to pass the night in the swamp and began, faint and hungry, to plan a nest of branches on one of the largest trees or windfalls like a monkey's nest, or eagle's, or Indian's in the flooded forests of the Orinoco described by Humboldt.
[3] But when the sun was getting low and everything seemed most bewildering and discouraging, I found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of a stream, growing not in the ground but on a bed of yellow mosses in which its small white bulb had found a soft nest and from which its one leaf and one flower sprung. The flower was white and made the impression of the utmost simple purity like a snowflower. No other bloom was near it, for the bog a short distance below the surface was still frozen, and the water was ice cold. It seemed the most spiritual of all the flower people I had ever met. I sat down beside it and fairly cried for joy.
How do authors communicate their tone in a piece of writing? Identify the tone (or tones) of this passage. Answer: (YOU PROMISED BRAINLIEST!!!)
The words he has chosen which are "difficult, force, crooked, struggling, tangled, fallen, fear, faint, and hungry", shows that he is going through quite a scary and tricky time, but it was hard for him to pass that swamp, and you can see he chose excellent words on how his journey was like. Plus the words " struggling, fear, and hungry", shows what difficulty he is going through and you as the reader imagine yourself in that position and you would feel it all scary on how he is experiencing it.

Here is my rough draft
National landmarks are a part of our nations history. Landmarks commonly represent something that happened in the past, including wars and big events. Using public money to maintain these landmarks, is something that would be beneficial. If we do use public money to maintain them, then more generations will be able to experience them.
When landmarks deteriorate, current and future generations are no longer able to see the landmarks. An example of these landmarks deteriorating, is the Statue of Liberty. In 1875 when the statue of liberty was built it had the color of copper. However, due to the copper reacting to the sun, the color has changed to the green that it is today. Because of its color becoming green, current and future generations are unable to see the original copper color.
National Landmarks also give students an opportunity to learn more about our nation's history. Visiting National landmarks also gives students an educational experience outside of their classrooms. This can give students a better understanding of our past as a nation. It also gives teachers new teaching opportunities. I would have many things to write about, because I'm from a navy family, and have been to a lot of different places.
In conclusion, we should maintain, and preserve our national landmarks. They are part of our nation's history. They also give students a better learning experience and teachers better teaching opportunities. These are all reasons why we should use public money to maintain landmarks.
