Heavenly Pickerel

Although cliché,

Over the river and through the woods I went,

I went, and then I went a little farther.

All to get back home, but ‘twas not the destination

I was most excited for, oh no most definitely not the destination

But instead the journey, the journey was the most beautiful

Site I have ever lay my eyes upon...

There was a red overpass with beautiful pickerel,

With color so vibrant a man with shaded spectacles must look away,

Their color resembled the night sky with a purple hue

And so, I decided to say nothing but what was true

These were by far the most beautiful thing to ever be seen

And thus, I felt I would need

To see it again and again till the very end...

And so, I did I saw that pickerel every day and every night till I drew my last breath

On a cold winter's day, my only wish was to see them one last time to only find out they too

Drew their last breath, and so I died old and sad that I did not get to see my friends,

"You did the right thing by bringing her here," the woman said when she returned from delivering the box. "Many people cause animals more harm when they try to help them. They don't think to bring the animals to a trained expert as you did. You can come back tomorrow to check on her." When Arnie woke up the next day, he heard the father sparrow and the babies chirping cheerfully outside his window. Arnie and his father returned to the wildlife center and talked to the veterinarian. She thanked them for bringing the bird to the center instead of trying to fix her wing themselves.

"Can we take her back to her babies today?" Arnie asked.
