Do you think professional sports should still be playing during the pandemic?

Answers

Answer 1
It depends. It depends on whether there are any fans that are attendant, if any of the players have the virus, and if the players and coaching staff use protective equipment such as masks. Another thing that it depends on is which sport it is. Some sports like context sports for example should not be played due to how close the players are getting to one another. So professional sports probably shouldn’t be played for now. But eventually they should be able to return. :)

Hundreds of Afghan refugees have set up camp in a Brussels church, protesting against their imminent deportation to their home country, which they say is not safe.

Sitting in the heart of Brussels' trendy Saint Catherine district, with renowned fish restaurants and designer fashion stores, nothing on the outside of Saint John the Baptist at the Beguinage hints at its temporary residents.

Inside, however, half of the church is filled with tents and makeshift beds. People sit on the floor to eat their lunch and children run around the 17th century baroque church's nave.

The refugees say they fear they would be killed or be forced to join terrorist groups if they returned to Afghanistan.

"We are afraid to die, to go back to die or to join a group of Al-Qaeda that is against humanity," said Samir Hamdard, the 29-year-old spokesman for the group.

Which lines from "Nefarious War," by Li Po, best express the theme of the poem?

A)"Oh, nefarious war! I see why arms /
Were so seldom used by the benign sovereigns."

B)"Our three armies are worn and grown old."

C)"Last year we fought by the head-stream of the So-Kan, /
This year we are fighting on the Tsung-hoo road."

D)"Our three armies are worn and grown old."

Answers

Answer:

The lines that best expresses the theme of the poem are:

A) "Oh, nefarious war! I see why arms /

Were so seldom used by the benign sovereigns."

Explanation:

The poem "Nefarious War" describes the horrors of the Chinese battles against the Tartars and criticizes the fact that war accomplishes nothing.

The lands of China are covered with corpses of fallen soldiers, their insides being eaten by birds, their horses crying woefully. After this awful description, the speaker states:

So, men are scattered and smeared over the desert grass,

And the generals have accomplished nothing.

Oh, nefarious war! I see why arms

Were so seldom used by the benign sovereigns.

The poem is criticizing the uselessness of war. Its brutality brings nothing but pain and suffering. Benign sovereigns can see and understand that, which leads them to avoid engaging in war. Since they truly want their people to be happy, they do not send them to meaningless fights. Sovereigns who do not avoid war at all costs end up facing other costs - their people's lives and happiness.

BURNING A BOOK

by William Stafford:

Protecting each other, right in the center

a few pages glow a long time.

The cover goes first, then outer leaves

curling away, then spine and a scattering.

Truth, brittle and faint, burns easily,

its fire as hot as the fire lies make—

flame doesn’t care. You can usually find

a few charred words in the ashes.

And some books ought to burn, trying for character

but just faking it. More disturbing

than book ashes are whole libraries that no one

got around to writing—desolate

towns, miles of unthought in cities,

and the terrorized countryside where wild dogs

own anything that moves. If a book

isn’t written, no one needs to burn it—

ignorance can dance in the absence of fire.

So I’ve burned books. And there are many

I haven’t even written, and nobody has.

What’s the central theme of the text ripe figs
A.family doesn’t always know what’s best
B.tradition grounds people and promotes stability
C. Respect for elders is the most important thing to have
D. Growing up takes time and patience, it can’t be rushed

Answers

Answer:

D). Growing up takes time and patience, it can’t be rushed.

Explanation:

Kate Chopin's story is based upon the key idea that 'human maturity is a gradual process like the seasons of the year which requires patience and can't be hastened.' This theme is represented through the metaphor of 'fig' which symbolizes that 'ripening'(or maturity) comes with time. Making haste or anxiousness will serve no purpose is the message that Maman-Nainaine gives to Babette and tells her that 'like the figs will not ripe sooner as per her wish, similarly the maturity would arrives in her at the right time.' Thus, option D is the correct answer.

What literary device is being used in the following quote: “That ‘banished,’ that one word ‘banished,’ / Hath slain ten thousand Tybalts.”

Answers

Answer:

Hyperbole, Personification, and Alliteration.

Explanation:

The given quote is taken from the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare and said by Juliet on the banishment of Romeo.

The literary device thatt has been used in this quote is hyperbole, personification, and alliteration.

Hpyerbole is a literary device that is used to exaggerate a point extremely. The word 'hyperbole'  is derived from Greek, which means 'excess.' So, this rhetoric device is used to make an exaggerated point.

In this quote, this rhetoric device is used to exaggerate the point that the banishment of Romeo is like slaying ten thousand Tybalts, which means that Romeo's banishment was worse than the slaying of Tybalt.

Alliteration is a rhetoric device in which the beginning of a word or phrase have same consonant sound. This device is used to highligh a point that the author is trying to make.

In the given quote, the use of this device can be found in the consonant sound of 'that', 'banished', 'ten' and 'Tybalts.'

Personification is the literary device that is used to attribute human characteristics to an inanimate objects or non-human things such as trees, clouds, animals, etc.

In the given extract, personification is used by attributing the human characteristic of slaying to 'word.' 'that one word banished, hath slain slain.' Since a 'word' can not have the ability to 'slain' but it is attributing that the 'word' banished had slain ten thousand Tybalts.

So, the correct answer is hyperbole, personification, and alliteration.
