Answer:

For the Aztecs, the enviroment was more benevolent. The aztecs inhabited Central Mexico which is a highland area where temperatures are mild. Soils are also very fertile because they are volcanic. The biggest challenge they had to face was precisely the active volcanoes that sorround the Central Valley of Mexico.

For the Mayans, the enviroment was more unforgiving. They inhabited a lowland tropical jungle with high humidity and temperatures all-year round. The soils were not very fertile either.

It has been theorized that the Mayan civilization disappeared because of deforestation, which led to a rise of temperatures and a general worsening of enviromental conditions.

Answer:

A statement by 101 congressmen denouncing the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown decision as "a clear abuse of judicial power"

Explanation:

The Southern Manifesto, issued in 1956 is a "statement by 101 congressmen denouncing the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown decision as "a clear abuse of judicial power" "

This is evident in the fact that the Southern Manifesto was formally named the Declaration of Constitutional Principles written during the 84th United States Congress, which is against the racial integration of public places.

The declaration was approved by southern congressmen consisting of 19 Senators and 82 Representatives.

How could the event at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory been prevented?

Answers

The severity of the destruction caused by the fire could have been prevented had the company taken necessary precautions. Despite the obvious flaws in fire safety and recent warning notice from the NY Board of Sanitary Control, little was done to correct the facility's violations. New York was a booming industrial economy in the early 1900's and many factories faced tough competition. The result was often cutting corners and violating building codes in order to turn a profit. There were two major flaws in the Triangle shirtwaist factory building. First, there was only one fire escape even though two more were needed. Second, all the exits had doors that opened inwardly rather than out. As women ran down the fire escape, it began to buckle under their weight. There were two exits and two elevators located on each end (Green Street and Washington Place) of the flat on the ninth floor. The Greene Street stairway was blocked by flames, and the Washington Place stairway was locked. It had become common practice for the factory to lock the Washington Place to prevent employee theft. As a result, the only escape routes left for victims were the elevators.

The ineffectiveness of the firemen revealed many flaws in the fire department that would later be addressed. For example, had the ladder been long enough to reach the top three floors and the water pressure strong enough to reach the floors, many of the victims could have survived the event. A few years after the incident, the fire department developed a stronger water pump and added an extra ladder as a precaution.

After the fire, the owners of Triangle Shirtwaist factory, Harris and Blanck, were brought to court on charges of manslaughter but were eventually acquitted. They were fined $75 for each life lost. However their insurance policy paid them a total of $60,000, at the rate of $400 per life lost, so they actually profited from the tragedy. After two years, they continued to lock the doors to exits and were fined for several safety code violations. However this event heralded the birth of the Labor Movement. It brought numerous laws on safety, brakes for workers and wages.

Answer:

To have prevented the tragedy of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, the company should have installed safer escape routes and had better safety codes in place. So many people died and many were significantly injured from this event, and it could have been significantly lessened, if not prevented, with proper security and safety in place for the workers in the factory.

name 5 facts about west africa surplus in the 15th century

Answers

Answer:

The history of West Africa has been commonly divided into its prehistory, the Iron Age in Africa, the major polities flourishing, the colonial period, and finally the post-independence era, in which the current nations were formed. West Africa is west of an imagined north-south axis lying close to 10° east longitude, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Sahara Desert.

Colonial boundaries are reflected in the modern boundaries between contemporary West African states, cutting across ethnic and cultural lines, often dividing single ethnic groups between two or more states. During the Holocene, sedentary farming began to develop in West Africa. The Iron industry, in both smelting and forging for tools and weapons, appeared in Sub-Saharan Africa by 1200 BCE, and by 400 BCE, contact had been made with the Mediterranean civilizations, and a regular trade included exporting gold, cotton, metal, and leather in exchange for copper, horses, salt, textiles, and beads. The Nok culture (1500 BCE - 200/300 BCE) would develop.[1] and vanished under unknown circumstances around 500 AD, thus having lasted approximately 2,000 years.[2] The Serer people would construct the Senegambian stone circles (3rd century BCE - 16th century CE). The Sahelian kingdoms were a series of kingdoms or empires that were built on the Sahel, the area of grasslands south of the Sahara. They controlled the trade routes across the desert, and were also quite decentralised, with member cities having a great deal of autonomy. The Ghana Empire may have been established as early as the 7th century CE. It was succeeded by the Sosso in 1230, the Mali Empire in the 13th century CE, and later by the Songhai and Sokoto Caliphate. There were also a number of forest empires and states in this time period.

Following the collapse of the Songhai Empire, a number of smaller states arose across West Africa, including the Bambara Empire of Ségou, the lesser Bambara kingdom of Kaarta, the Fula/Malinké kingdom of Khasso (in present-day Mali's Kayes Region), and the Kénédougou Empire of Sikasso. European traders first became a force in the region in the 15th century. The transatlantic African slave trade resumed, with the Portuguese taking hundreds of captives back to their country for use as slaves; however, it would not begin on a grand scale until Christopher Columbus's voyage to the Americas and the subsequent demand for cheap colonial labour. As the demand for slaves increased, some African rulers sought to supply the demand by constant war against their neighbours, resulting in fresh captives. European, American and Haitian governments passed legislation prohibiting the Atlantic slave trade in the 19th century, though the last country to abolish the institution was Brazil in 1888.

In 1725, the cattle-herding Fulanis of Fouta Djallon launched the first major reformist jihad of the region, overthrowing the local animist, Mande-speaking elites and attempting to somewhat democratize their society. At the same time, the Europeans started to travel into the interior of Africa to trade and explore. Mungo Park (1771–1806) made the first serious expedition into the region's interior, tracing the Niger River as far as Timbuktu. French armies followed not long after. In the Scramble for Africa in the 1880s the Europeans started to colonise the inland of West Africa, they had previously mostly controlled trading ports along the coasts and rivers. Following World War II, campaigns for independence sprung up across West Africa, most notably in Ghana under the Pan-Africanist Kwame Nkrumah (1909–1972). After a decade of protests, riots and clashes, French West Africa voted for autonomy in a 1958 referendum, dividing into the states of today; most of the British colonies gained autonomy the following decade. Since independence, West Africa has suffered from the same problems as much of the African continent, particularly dictatorships, political corruption and military coups; it has also seen bloody civil wars. The development of oil and mineral wealth has seen the steady modernization of some countries since the early 2000s, though inequality persists hope this helps

How did ancient greek architects create columns for their temples that appeared to be straight up and down

Answers

Answer:

Might not help because im in elementary

Explanation:

Whilst some stone columns were carved in one piece, as buildings became bigger, columns began to be constructed from separate drums. These were individually carved and fitted together using a wooden dowel or metal peg in the centre of the drum.

Columns were carved of local stone, usually limestone or tufa; in much earlier temples, columns would have been made of wood. Marble was used in many temples, such as the Parthenon in Athens, which is decorated with Pentelic marble and marble from the Cycladic island of Paros.

Ancient Greek architects create columns for their temples that appeared to be straight up and down by “entasis,” intended to counteract another optical effect in which columns with straight sides appear to the eye to be slenderer in their middles and to have a waist.

What is architects?

An architect is someone who plans, designs, and supervises building construction. Practicing architecture entails providing services related to the design of structures and the area inside the site around the buildings.

Meanwhile, the columns bulge in the centre rather than being straight along their vertical axes. This phenomenon, known as "entasis," was designed to counterbalance another optical impact in which columns with straight sides look slenderer in the centre and to have a waist to the eye.

Furthermore, the entire superstructure of the temple's outer facades (above the level of the columns) bends downward at the corners to reflect the stylobate and continue upward the temple's overall domed curvature.

Convertible securities are bonds or preferred stock that, under specified terms and conditions, can be exchanged for common stock at the option of the holder. Conversion of these securities does not provide new capital; debt (or preferred stock) is simply replaced on the balance sheet by common stock. However, reducing the debt or preferred stock will improve the firms financial position and make it easier to raise additional capital, but raising additional capital requires a separate action. The conversion ratio ( ) is the number of shares of common stock that are obtained by converting a convertible bond or share of convertible preferred stock. The conversion price ( ) is the effective price paid for common stock obtained by converting a convertible security. From the standpoint of the issuer, which of the following statements is a disadvantage of convertibles?a. Because convertibles have low coupon rates, they require the firm to sell common stock at discount prices relative to prices that are currently prevailing. b. Convertibles typically have a low coupon interest rate, and the advantage of this low-cost debt will be lost when conversion occurs. c. If the company truly wants to raise equity capital and if the stock price does not rise sufficiently after the bond is issued, then the company will be stuck with debt rather than the desired equity. ___________ is/are correct.
