Which of these is a true statement about travel during Douglass’s youth? 1. Enslaved persons had few opportunities to travel and few experiences beyond their plantations. 2. Enslaved persons often traveled New England factories seeking a better way of life. 3. Enslaved persons were encouraged to visit their state capitals when traveling between plantations. 4. Enslaved persons were welcomed warmly, in many harbor towns, when they travelled by boat.
Answer: 1. Enslaved persons had few opportunities to travel and few experiences beyond their plantations.
Explanation:
From the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass written by the famous anti-abolishionist himself, it is shown that people who were enslaved had very few opportunities to travel and few experiences beyond their plantations.
This was because their owners lived in constant worry that the slaves would escape from them were they given such opportunities so they limited their interactions with the outside world so they wouldn't even dream of it. Indeed there were many liberties denied the slaves so that they could be kept in bondage.
Apart from limiting their right to travel, the slave owners refused slaves the opportunity to be literate with Fredrick Douglas talking about a time when a class he had been teaching was permanently disbanded when the owners came with various weapons to stop the class.

PLEASE HELP - from book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury Formulate a thesis for the following prompt: What is Bradbury's message? What does he want the reader to take away from this novel?
Answer:
Bradbury wrote this essential dystopian novel describing what would be the main threat to the future of culture: in the future censorship will reach the status of unnecessary if we can make no one bother to inquire, to worry about challenging their thoughts. In opening a book.
For many, this text is correct as a predictor of the contradictions of the modern era: in times in which the social mass is so plural, the media are more careful than ever to transmit messages that do not offend anyone, so they bet on a lowest common denominator that ends up suppressing the plurality of ideas and the development of knowledge. A radically anti-intellectual culture.
He wants the reader to be able to perceive this and not let technology consume it entirely. That he inquires and questions things.

Dear Sir,
It is with utmost concern that I am writing to you about our school's take on certain issues, both for the students as well as the teachers. I have noticed that many of our students have got so accustomed to their cell phones and other technological devices that it is almost near impossible to take regular and interactive classes. As I have noticed in my own class, many of the students don't seem to be interested in classes anymore.
And as many parents have also pointed out, I think it is important that we consider prohibiting the use of cell phones inside the classrooms. Also, the culture of allowing students to stay out of class if they are not interested should also be reviewed.
And for the teachers, I have seen that many teachers have taken upon themselves to prohibit the use of cellphones in class and give punishment to anyone found violating the rules. Though this hasn't been 'legally and validly' made a school rule, it is my view that teachers be allowed to practice such acts so as to make their students more attentive. Also, I feel that teachers be given more rights to do whatever they feel right for their class as long as it promotes teaching and learning in their classes without the opposition from the school.
So, I would like to request you to take them into consideration and hope you can make some changes to our education system.
Thank you.
Regards,
Miss Richards.

Now that you've spotted the problems of shift of person and shift of number, revise the paragraph by removing these inconsistencies. Rewrite the paragraph, maintaining consistency by using first person plural when referring to the readers, and third person plural nouns and pronouns in referring to those being judged.
In the story, "The Valiant Woman" by J. J. Powers, we find that in judging people we overlook most of the characteristics that draw us to him, but we do so without realizing it. You can draw inaccurate conclusions about a person by misjudging their facial expressions, their physical stamina, and their obvious personality traits. When people are blinded by false superiority, they judge a person incorrectly because they fail to see them as they really are.

During Ancient Greece it is believed Greek and Roman heroes were called up to intervene in all kinds of human endeavors; such as battles between peoples, or wars between nations. They are also often conscripted into worthy causes, such as the creation of a new town; laying the metaphoric foundations for what was to prosper into our contemporary major cities that we still walk in today. These stories are called founding myths, and often denote moments in a shared history when new communities arise to later became powerful and prosperous. What does the phrase “metaphoric foundations” most closely mean as it is used in the text?
Answer: A the mythic ideas of what the city was built on
Explanation;
By stating that the Greek and Roman heroes laid the metaphoric foundations for what became major cities, the text seems to infer that the heroes laid the mythical ideas of what the city was built on.
Metaphors are used to describe things in a way that are not literally applicable so when it is said that the foundations laid were metaphoric, it meant that the foundations did not mean actual physical foundations but something else which in this case meant the mythic ideas of what the city was built on.
