(Romeo and Juliet) Do you believe that Juliet’s parents, the Nurse, or Paris might suspect that they somehow drove Juliet to kill herself? Or do you think they truly believe it was simply grief? Back up your reasoning with textual evidence.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:  In the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, there is no indication that Juliet's parents, the Nurse, or Paris suspect that they might have driven Juliet to kill herself. Instead, they seem to genuinely believe that her death was caused by grief. For example, Lord Capulet, Juliet's father, says "Death is my son-in-law, death is my heir. My daughter he hath wedded. I will die and leave him all." (Act 5, Scene 3, Lines 170-173). This suggests that Lord Capulet believes that Juliet died from grief over Romeo's death. Similarly, the Nurse says "Alack, alack, that heaven should practice stratagems upon so soft a subject as myself! Here's come the lady. Oh, how her beauty is increased since I saw her last!" (Act 5, Scene 3, Lines 123-126) which suggests that the Nurse believes that Juliet died from sadness and not from any other cause.

What is Romeo's plan for getting to Juliet's room on their wedding night?

When Romeo begs Friar Lawrence to marry him and Juliet, Friar Lawrence accepts because he believes their marriage would put an end to their families' rivalry.

Why does Juliet fear the love that she and Romeo share?

He requests that the Nurse inform Juliet that she must find a way to attend confession in Friar Lawrence's cell that afternoon, where they will be married. The Nurse also offers to erect a cloth ladder so Romeo can reach Juliet's chamber on their wedding night.

Why did Juliet offer to deny her family name and why did she ask Romeo to do the same?

Juliet thinks that love is a result of one's inner identity and that the enmity between the Montagues and Capulets is a product of the outward identity, which is founded only on names. Her affection for Romeo outweighs her family's hate for the Montague name since she thinks of him as an individual.

The privatisation _____ television channel has increased job opportunities ______ media students and other

The privatization of television channels has increased job opportunities for media students and others.

When referring to television in a country, the term "privatization" does not refer to the sale of that channel but rather to the elimination of the public monopoly and the authorization of private channels as well. In 1990, the broadcastings of commercial radio and television institutions in Turkey were made lawful, and the monopoly that TRT held on the broadcasting of public service was broken up.

Privatization is critical to the success of any economy because it generates new employment opportunities and fosters the development of robust market competition. The goal of privatization is to maximize profits, and one way it does this is by raising the bar for the quality of goods and services provided to customers.

Suit brought against GM. Evidence revealed that GM didn't hire Black women prior to 1964 and that all Black women hired after 1970 lost their jobs in a seniority-based layoff during a recession. Court rejected the plaintiff's attempt to bring a suit on behalf of Black women because there wasn't precedent that stated "Black women are a special case to be protected from discrimination" and thus the lawsuit could only be examined from either race or sex discrimination, not both. The court reasoned, creating "new classes of protected minorities, governed only by the mathematical principles of permutations and combination, clearly raises the prospect of opening the hackneyed Pandora's box."Females had been hired so the sex discrimination was dismissed, and was put in with another racial discrimination case. Black women are protected only to the extent that their experiences coincide with those of either of the two groups.(2) Moore v Hughes Helicopter, Inc. Typical of cases where courts refused to certify Black females as class representatives in race and sex discrimination actions because the court doubted her "ability to adequately represent white female employees." Thus for evidence of discrimination under disparate impact theory, Moore could only draw from a small statistical pool of Black females only (rather than including also white women and Black men).(3) Payne v Travenol. Case in which two Black female plaintiffs alleging race discrimination brought a class action suit on behalf of all Black employees at a pharmaceutical plant. Ultimately, Black women were awarded back-pay and general race discrimination was found. However, Black men were not extended the same remedy, as the court argued that sex disparities between Black men and Black women create conflicting interests that Black women can't represent Black men adequately.

What are examples of exaggeration, irony, and humor in this text? What is the main point of this text? What would be a good title for this text?
One is obliged to concede that in true loftiness of character, Man cannot claim to approach even the meanest of the Higher Animals. It is plain that he is constitutionally incapable of approaching that altitude; that he is constitutionally afflicted with a defect which must make such approach forever impossible, for it is manifest that this defect is permanent in him, indestructible, ineradicable. I find this Defect to be the Moral Sense. He is the only animal that has it. It is the secret of his degradation. It is the quality which enables him to do wrong. It has no other office. It is incapable of performing any other function. It could never have been intended to perform any other. Without it, man could do no wrong. He would rise at once to the level of the Higher Animals.
Since the Moral Sense has but the one office, the one capacity--to enable man to do wrong --it is plainly without value to him. It is as valueless to him as is disease. In fact, it manifestly is a disease. Rabies is bad, but it is not so bad as this disease. Rabies enables a man to do a thing which he could not do when in a healthy state: kill his neighbor with a poisonous bite. No one is the better man for having rabies. The Moral Sense enables a man to do wrong. It enables him to do wrong in a thousand ways. Rabies is an innocent disease, compared to the Moral Sense. No one, then, can be the better man for having the Moral Sense. What, now, do we find the Primal Curse to have been? Plainly what it was in the beginning: the infliction upon man of the Moral Sense; the ability to distinguish good from evil; and with it, necessarily, the ability to do evil; for there can be no evil act without the presence of consciousness of it in the doer of it.
And so I find that we have descended and degenerated, from some far ancestor--some microscopic atom wandering at its pleasure between the mighty horizons of a drop of water per-chance--insect by insect, animal by animal, reptile by reptile, down the long highway of smirchless innocence, till we have reached the bottom stage of development--namable as the Human Being. Below us---nothing. Nothing but the Frenchman. There is only one possible stage below the Moral Sense; that is the Immoral Sense. The Frenchman has it. Man is but little lower than the angels. This definitely locates him. He is between the angels and the French.
Man seems to be a rickety poor sort of a thing, any way you take him; a kind of British Museum of infirmities and inferiorities. He is always undergoing repairs. A machine that was as unreliable as he would have no market. On top of his Specialty--the Moral Sense--are piled a multitude of minor infirmities; such a multitude, indeed, that one may broadly call them countless. The higher animals get their teeth without pain or inconvenience. Man gets his through months and months of cruel torture; and at a time of life when he is but ill able to bear it. As soon as he has got them they must all be pulled out again, for they were of no value in the first place, not worth the loss of a night's rest. The second set will answer for a while, by being reinforced occasionally with rubber or plugged up with gold; but he will never get a set which can really be depended on till a dentist makes him one. This set will be called "false" teeth--as if he had ever worn any other kind.

Examples of exaggeration in the text include describing man's Moral Sense as being "permanent, indestructible, ineradicable" and as "a disease" that is "without value" and "manifestly ... the Primal Curse." There is irony in calling the Moral Sense the "secret of [man's] degradation" and in comparing it unfavorably to rabies. Humor can be seen in the passage's comparison of man to a "rickety poor sort of a thing," to a machine that is "unreliable," and to being "between the angels and the French."

What is the main point of this text?

The main point of the text is that the author believes the Moral Sense to be a negative aspect of humanity, which makes man different and inferior to the "Higher Animals." The author argues that the Moral Sense only enables humans to do wrong and that without it, man would be on par with the "Higher Animals."

What would be a good title for this text?

A good title for this text could be "The Degrading Effect of the Moral Sense" or "The Inferiority of Man and the Curse of the Moral Sense."
