Jesse just received an e-mail from her boss that reads: "Jesse, I need you to prepare a presentation of what our company has done in the past year for Mrs. Jorgensen. She's old, keep it simple. Leave out any of the complex material because it will probably just bore her anyways. John." Jesse joined R & R Consulting right after Anthony Jorgensen, the founder and CEO, had passed away. While Penelope Jorgensen inherited the major stake in the firm and was still listed as the firm's CEO, the day-to- day running of operations was given to John Preston, Jesse's boss. Jesse stared at her screen and wondered to what extent she should follow John's advice and "keep it simple." She'd only met Mrs. Jorgensen twice, but she'd always seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about the inner workings of the firm. Jesse just stared at her monitor trying to figure out the best way to proceed. 1. Do you think John's e-mail to Jesse expressed a competent audience analysis? 2. What assumptions do you think John was making? Are these fair? 3. How do you think Jesse should proceed?

Answers

Answer 1

I do not think that John's e-mail to Jesse expressed a competent audience analysis.

John was making the assumption that Jesse was knowledgeable about Mrs. Jorgensen. These are not completely fair as Jesse had limited knowledge about the woman.

Jesse could proceed by consulting people who are more familiar with the woman and examining her past records. If she does not have enough information, she could simply inform John about that.

What is a competent audience analysis?

A competent audience analysis is adapting a role or task according to tot the knowledge level of the people who are being addressed or given the role.

In this situation, John did not completely express a competent audience analysis because he did not really gauge his knowledge level of Jesse before assigning him the task. So, Jesse can decide to research or express his worries.

how does the description of the old buccaneer on page 1 differ from your image of a typical pirate? how is it similar?

Buccaneer differ from pirates who attacked ships from all different countries.

How is it similar and different?

Pirate is also referred to as a buccaneer. You might be concerned about a buccaneer who wants to rob your ship and perhaps take your crew hostage when you're out at sea. A buccaneer was a particular type of pirate in the late 17th century.

Pirate: a person who uses a vessel to rob others in violation of the law of their property. Since ancient Egypt, most nations have had a death punishment for this offense.

Originally, buccaneers were French hunters who made their living on the island of Hispaniola by stalking wild boar and pigs. They were known as boucaniers, or buccaneers in English, because they smoked meat and pig on a wooden frame known as a boucan. (Buccaneers did enjoy eating manatee, but unless they had one of the very competent Miskito harpooners from Nicaragua with them, it was usually beyond their ability to catch.) After being continuously attacked by Spanish soldiers and expelled from Hispaniola to Tortuga, these men turned to piracy as retaliation against Spain.

How to write about a place you knew well?

Mature maple trees that bordered the streets provided a little bit too much shade on hot summer days. When I was younger, I used to stroll these same streets after school, discovering their tiny passageways and secret treasures along the way. Even as an adult, crossing Main Street at dusk when lights twinkled in windows and laughter erupted from open doors still had a particular quality.

I used to spend the weekends hanging out with pals around a bonfire off to one side of town beneath a starry sky. Before eventually parting ways until the next time, we'd share snacks, swap stories, and watch shooting stars blaze into space. Here, everything seemed familiar and every moment spent with these people meant more than words could ever express.

Answer:

By using evidence to support the ideas she expresses in her book review, the author of "Shakespeare and Samurai (and Robot Ninjas?)" shows that she wanted to provide analysis of both the graphic novel's text and its illustrations. The author offers detailed analysis and critique of the graphic novel's story, dialogue, characters, themes, and artistic style. The review considers both the positive and negative aspects of the graphic novel, but the primary focus is on providing analysis and critique rather than an equal number of positive and negative comments. The author does not express a preference for dialogue over the graphic novel's setting or focus on providing details over explaining her reasoning.

Subject: Health Hazards Caused By Junk Food

Dear Sir/MADAM:

I write to your good self to express my deep concern over the problem of health hazards caused by junk food. The tsunami of junk food has struck the entire world.  It has wreaked havoc on the health of people, especially of children. Obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cholesterol imbalance, headaches, depression, dental problems, etc, never ever abounded as much before the advent of junk foods as they do now.

There is nothing good that can be said about junk food! There is little nutritional value in them. These foods are often high in calories yet offer little or no nutritional value. When fast food frequently replaces nutritious foods in your diet, it can lead to poor nutrition, poor health, and weight gain. Tests in lab animals have even shown a negative effect in short duration diets. Being overweight is a risk factor for a variety of chronic health problems including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Through the medium of your esteemed daily I appeal to the Health Ministry to look into the matter and take prompt preventive measures in this regard. Junk food outlets should either be banned or made inaccessible to children so easily. We can’t just allow the fast food companies to play with the health of children of our nation. I also appeal to people to abstain themselves from eating too much of junk food. I am hopeful you will give my ideas enough space in your newspaper. Thanking you.

Yours faithfully,
