"Silver trucks heavy with oil or paper–
bricks or milk, teeming over highways alongside us,
on our way to clean tables, read ledgers, or save lives–
to teach geometry, or ring-up groceries as my mother did
for twenty years, so I could write this poem for all of us today. "
The last lines of the second stanza creates a sense of unity by referencing
A the shared experience of listening to loud noises
B the shared experience of the American workforce
C the shared experience of teaching and learning
D the shared need to move and travel
Answer:
B.
Explanation:
Based on the stanza (which I believe is the entire paragraph displayed above the question), we can immediately disqualify A. as a choice, as there is not a lot of references to "listening to loud noises". We can also eliminate D. as there is no mention of a shared need to move and travel. This leaves us with two options: B and C. From here, I think both could work, but what led me to believe that B is the correct option is because there is always some sort of work that is being talked about in the paragraph. "clean tables, read ledgers, or save lives-to teach geometry, or ring up groceries as my mother did". I believe the line I just quoted really demonstrates how B is the right answer. Please let me know if I misunderstood and I hope I helped!

Answer:
The Parson's flat or apartment is bigger than Winston's but very messy, Dishes are piled in the sink and the children's toys, books, and clothes are scattered everywhere.
TRUE
Explanation:
'The Parsons' flat was bigger than Winston's, and dingy in a different way. Everything had a battered, trampled-on look, as though the place had just been visited by some large violent animal. Games impedimenta--hockey-sticks, boxing-gloves, a burst football, a pair of sweaty shorts turned inside out--lay all over the floor, and on the table there was a litter of dirty dishes and dog-eared exercise-books. On the walls were scarlet banners of the Youth League and the Spies, and a full-sized poster of Big Brother. There was the usual boiled-cabbage smell, common to the whole building, but it was shot through by a sharper reek of sweat, which--one knew this at the first sniff, though it was hard to say how--was the sweat of some person not present at the moment. In another room someone with a comb and a piece of toilet paper was trying to keep tune with the military music which was still issuing from the telescreen.'

Write a letter to your cousin describing to him/her how your favourite game is played
Answer:
Dear (Cousin's name),
I love playing this game called hot potato. To start you have an item, not too big, not too small. You find friends if you don't have any, and then you get in a loose spread out circle. You start throwing this item to each person next to you in a circle until someone drops it and screams in anger and rage at losing the game. Your goal is to touch the item for as little time as possible but not drop it. I hope the next time you come to visit we can play.
Yours truly,
Your favorite cousin

Why is objectivity so important to historical accounts?
Answer:
It is important to be as objective as possible when doing historical research so that your work does not end up having excessive biases. Having such preconceptions can make us prone to bias. Therefore, we must be as objective as possible so our conclusions will be as valid as possible.

Freedom
BY LANGSTON HUGHES
Freedom will not come
Today, this year
Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.
I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.
I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.
Freedom
Is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.
I live here, too.
I want my freedom
Just as you.

The aim of opinion writing, or persuasive writing, is to have your reader agree with your opinion/ point of view by the time they finish reading your work. This is a chance to use your persuasive skills, and your writing expertise to convince them that your stance on a particular issue or topic is the right one. This can be anything from your favourite ice cream flavour (mint chocolate chip!) to the political party you support.
There are 3 main ways to frame your written arguments (or reasons) that will change your readers mind:
1. Logic: using reason or common sense is one way of helping to prove why your stance on a particular issue is the right one. For example, if I wanted to persuade you that mint chocolate chip was the best ice cream flavour (it definitely is), I might say that when you eat it, you feel refreshed, which is the exact feeling you want on a hot summer day. The logic of wanting to feel refreshed on a hot summer day is the logical argument I used to make my point.
2. Emotion: pulling at the heartstrings of your audience, or "hitting them in the feels" as the kids say, is another very effective way to persuade someone to agree with you. As an example, think of the ads that you see on TV for the SPCA, or to donate money to a cause from a developing country. Showing the sad faces of pets and children make the audience feel emotional; upset and guilty, so we pick up the phone to donate.
3. Expertise: being able to speak with authority/expertise on a specific topic, is the final way to form an argument. If you are someone who does a lot of gaming, and you are trying to tell me which video game is the best in terms of quality and overall experience, I would be inclined to believe you since you know a lot about the gaming community and would be able to give accurate information.
Now that we know more about the specific ways you can argue/persuade/defend your opinion on any given topic, let's try out our new skill!
Below are some questions where I will ask you to pick ONE of two things. Your task is to tell me which one is better, and WHY. For example, use persuasive writing to tell me why Coke is better than Pepsi. Once you have done this, reread your writing and tell me if your argument was one of logic, emotion, or expertise.
Example: Hot OR Cold? Cold is always better than hot. In cold weather, you can bundle up in cute, cozy clothes, and snuggle with your pets to keep warm. In hot weather, I feel yucky and grumpy. Here, I used emotional arguments.
*Your answers will be more detailed, but I included the above just so you have an idea of what I am asking for.
*Written responses should be a paragraph EACH.
1. McDonald's OR Wendy's ?
2. Coke OR Pepsi?
3. R&B Music OR Rap Music?
4. Beach OR Cottage?

Read the excerpt from The Hot Zone by Richard
Preston, then use the drop-down menus to answer the
questions
What is the topic of the passage?
What is the central idea of the passage?
Half of this biocontainment operation was going to be
news containment, C. J. Peter's comments to The
Washington Post were designed to create an impression
that the situation was under control, safe, and not all that
interesting, C. J. was understating the gravity of the
situation. But he could be very smooth when he wanted,
and he used his friendliest voice with the reporters,
assuring them over the telephone that there really was no
problem, just kind of a routine technical situation,
Somehow the reporters concluded that the sick monkeys
had been "destroyed as a precaution" when in fact the
nightmare, and the reason for troops, was that the
animals hadn't been destroyed,
- The Hot Zone,
Richard Preston
Which detail supports the central idea?
Dante
Intro
Answer:
The topic is limitation of news released to the media.
The central idea is that there are situations where the truth must be hidden.
The detail that supports the central message is sentence: "C. J. Peter's comments to The Washington Post were designed to create an impression that the situation was under control"
Explanation:
In a text, the topic refers to the subject presented. In the text above, we can see that this topic is the limitation of news released to the media. We can see that this is the topic, because we saw that after a tragedy happened, the media received limited, contained information that did not present the tragedy as it actually happened.
The central idea of a text, on the other hand, refers to the message the author wants to teach the reader. In the text above, we can see that this message is that there are situations where the truth must be hidden. This is because the group hides the truth about the tragedy so as not to generate panic and despair in the population. Therefore, we can conclude that it was necessary to hide the truth for security reasons.
The details that support the central idea are the sentences that show how the message is correct, or how it happened. In this case, we can identify the following sentence as a support detail: "C. J. Peter's comments to The Washington Post were designed to create an impression that the situation was under control"
