I was an evacuee during the Blitz in London, starting in September 1939 until May 1945. My family and I lived in a quiet area of London, but with the war we had to leave our home in order to find safety. We were sent to a small village in the countryside, where we were welcomed by a lovely family.
When we arrived in the village, it was strange to be in such a peaceful place after months of bombings in London. We were welcomed by our host family with open arms, and I was so grateful for the kindness they showed us. Our host family consisted of two parents and three children, and they were so generous and caring.
I will never forget the feeling of safety and peace I felt in the countryside. I enjoyed being able to roam around freely, to go for walks and to make friends with the other children in the village. I had to help my host family with the farming, but it was something I really enjoyed. I also attended the local school and was able to have fun with my new friends.
At times I felt homesick and longed to be with my own family, but I was also content with my new life in the countryside. I was able to appreciate the simple things in life, such as the beauty of nature, the kindness of people and the joy of spending time with friends.
After the war was over, I returned home and was reunited with my family. I was so happy to be back home, but I will never forget my time in the countryside and the wonderful people I met during my stay. I am now looking forward to a brighter future and all the wonderful things that it has to offer.
