Brake in the crust

Caused by continents colliding

Occurs when a fault slips

Answers

Answer:

Earthquake - Occurs when a fault slips

Fault - Brake in the crust

Himalayas - Caused by continents colliding

Subduction zone - When one plate goes under another

Explanation:

The earthquakes occur when a fault slips if we talk about earthquakes that occur at transform boundaries. Basically, the fault slips deeper because of the big pressure it causes on the crust below, and as it does and hits slightly lower it releases huge energy.

The faults form when the crust breaks, and this happens at transform boundaries. Depending on the pressure that will cause the crust to break, they can be caused by vertical or horizontal pressure.

The Himalayas are the tallest mountain chain in the world, and they have formed when two continental plates collided, those plates being the Eurasian and Indian ones.

Subduction zone is a zone where one tectonic plate moves below another tectonic plate, with the denser and lower (or simply much smaller one) goes below the less dense and higher positioned (or simply much larger one) plate.

What if the United States, Mexico, and Canada took the EU's example and joined to form a North American Union? Based on your knowledge of the European Union, describe two setbacks or hurdles that this idea might face.

Answers

Answer:

If a North American Union was created, the biggest problems that would occur would be rapid population shifts, and lower wages because of much-increased competition on the labor market.

Explanation:

A North American Union, by EU's example, would mean that the US, Canada, and Mexico will function as one in many ways. The borders will be open, both for economic actions and for free movement of people. While this may seem good at first sight, it will actually cause some major problems as well.

The US and Canada will face a major population increase in a very short period of time. The people from Mexico will rush to move into these two countries because of better living conditions and more job opportunities, which in turn will cause massive depopulation in Mexico.

On one side, Mexico will face major economic problems because of a sharp decline in its labor force, while on another side, the people in the US and Canada will face problems because there will be tens of millions of new laborers that will offer their services for lower wages. This will lead to tens of millions of people losing their jobs or not being able to find jobs, or if they do, they will have to work for less, meaning that they will be poorer.

Global Ocean Currents

Explain the model you drew in question 1. Be sure to identify which area you selected in your opening sentence.

pls someone help i am so desperate!!

Answers

Answer:

The convection currents model connects with the climate in Global Ocean Currents.

Explanation:

Ocean currents flow to larger distances and together form the greater conveyor belt. The current model plays a dominant role in the climate of earth regions. They influence the temperatures of the regions through which they travel. The surface ocean currents are driven by winds and effects of the Coriolis force. Deep ocean currents are driven by density and temperature changes. The thermohaline circulation in oceans forms a part of the ocean circulation and driven by temperature and density variations. They get the heat from the magma that lies in the mantle and moves in convection currents which rises towards the curst and cool down.

Which of the following best explains why Earth is tectonically active?
A. Areas of Earth's solid surface layer are thicker and so heavier than other areas.
B. Areas of Earth's solid surface layer are under great pressure from ocean water.
C. Earth's solid surface layer sits on a moving, semiliquid layer.
D. Earth's solid surface layer rotates more rapidly than the layers beneath it.

Answers

Answer:

C. Earth's solid surface layer sits on a moving, semiliquid layer.

Explanation:

Earth is highly tectonically active because the solid layer of the earth sits on a moving, semi-liquid layer.

The earth's crust is broken into slabs. Together with part of the upper mantle, they form a layer called the lithosphere. These solid lithospheric bodies are called tectonic plates.

Under the plates is a semi-molten layer under great temperature. As the molten layer moves, it carries the lithosphere on top of it. This causes the movement of the plates in different directions. The semi-liquid layer is called the asthenosphere

This is the reason why the earth is tectonically active.

What is the outcome of hotspots?

A. Formation of islands

B. Constant volcanic eruptions

C. Divergent boundary creation

D. Transform boundary creation

Answers

Answer:

A) Formation of islands

Explanation:

The outcome of hotspots is the Constant volcanic eruptions. Thus, the option (b) is correct.

Waht is hotspots?

A hotspot is a huge plume of heated mantle layer that rises from the planet's interior. Tectonic plate borders have no bearing on where a hotspot is located on the surface of the planet. Similar to how a line of melted wax appears when a sheet of parchment paper is slowly dragged over a burning candle, a line of volcanoes develops as a plate moves over a hotspot.

These same "hotspot" volcanoes are formed when a slender stream of hot crust rises up from the core of the earth and melts a fissure in the plate to allow magma to seep upward. Continuous volcanic outbursts are the result of hotspots. When one of the Earth's plates passes over an abnormally hot region of the mantle, hotspots develop.

Therefore, option (b) is correct.

what inferences can we make regarding earthquake magnitude, frequency, or concentration

Answers

Answer:

An earthquake is what happens when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past one another. The surface where they slip is called the fault or fault plane. The location below the earth’s surface where the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter, and the location directly above it on the surface of the earth is called the epicenter.

Sometimes an earthquake has foreshocks. These are smaller earthquakes that happen in the same place as the larger earthquake that follows. Scientists can’t tell that an earthquake is a foreshock until the larger earthquake happens. The largest, main earthquake is called the mainshock. Mainshocks always have aftershocks that follow. These are smaller earthquakes that occur afterwards in the same place as the mainshock. Depending on the size of the mainshock, aftershocks can continue for weeks, months, and even years after the mainshock!

Where are possible solutions to reducing the level of CO2 in the atmosphere

Answers

Answer:

more electric cars

less huge cow farms

less use of fossile fuels

Explanation:

Answer:

Solving climate change is a huge international challenge. Only a concerted global effort, involving the governments of all nations, will be enough to avert dangerous consequences. But that said, the individual actions of everyday people are still crucial. Large and complex issues, like climate change, are usually best tackled by breaking down the problem into manageable bits.

For carbon emissions, this means reducing the CO2 contribution of each and every one of the six and a half billion people on the planet. But what can you, as an individual person or family, do that will most make a difference to the big picture? Here are my top ten action items, which are both simple to achieve and have a real effect. They are ranked by how much impact they make to ‘kicking the CO2 habit’.

1. Make climate-conscious political decisions. Some commentators said that the 2007 Australian Federal election was the first to be strongly influenced by the stance made by competing political parties on climate change. Regardless of how true this may be, it is obvious that the strong and urgent action needed to combat climate change will require a healthy dose of political will, and the courage to make tough choices. This willpower comes from voters, who consistently demand real action and can see through ‘greenwashing’ (pretend ‘solutions’ and half-measures that do not do the job). Climate change should be a totally non-partisan issue since it affects all people and all countries. If climate change is not perceived by both sides of politics as a ‘core issue’, it will inevitably be marginalised by apparently more immediate concerns. So assess policies clearly, and make your vote count towards real climate solutions – each and every election. This is the only way a global solution can be put in place, in time.

2. Eat less red meat. Traditional red meat comes from ruminant livestock such as cattle and sheep. These animals produce large amounts of methane, which is a greenhouse gas that packs 72 times the punch of CO2 over a 20 year period. Other types of meat, such as chicken, pork or kangaroo, produce far less emissions. At average levels of consumption, a family’s emissions from beef would easily outweigh the construction and running costs of a large 4WD vehicle, in less than 5 years. There is no need to cut out red meat entirely, but fewer steaks and snags mean far less CO2.

3. Purchase “green electricity“. The future of energy clearly likes in renewable sources such as solar, wind and wave power and ‘hot rocks’. Even without climate change, there are limits to available oil, natural gas and coal. ‘Green power’ is electricity that comes from these technologies, but is delivered to you in the same way as ‘dirty power’ from fossil-fuel burning. That is, down your power lines. You can buy enough to replace your entire energy usage, or some fraction (I recommend going for 100%; the cost is a few more cents per kilowatt hour of electricity). Most energy suppliers now offer this service and will purchase energy from green sources that is equivalent to what you use. As more people take up this scheme, it will drive ever greater investment in these technologies, reduce cost of delivery, and so further hasten the pace of update. It’s a feedback, and you can be the catalyst of change. [Note some problems with GreenPower here]

4. Make your home and household energy efficient. We all unthinkingly leave lights on when we are not in the room, or switch off the TV by the remote instead of at the wall, fire up the heater on when we could put on an extra layer of clothing, or turn on the air conditioner when we could open the window and turn on a fan. It’s force of habit – a bad habit we can break, with just a little thought. Behaviour change lies at the heart of most individual actions on reducing our individual carbon footprint. By being sensible about your use household energy use, and making sure your house is well insulated, you can make a huge dent in your CO2 emissions. Oh, and it will save you plenty money that you no longer spend on wasted energy, year in, year out.

5. Buy energy and water efficient appliances. Aside from behavioural change, we can invest in more sensible technologies that help us in our day to day lives. When buying new electronic appliances, air conditioners or washing machines, look at their energy and water usage. The more energy efficient they are, the more they’ll save you in the long run, and the lower their CO2 impact will be. In most cases the ‘payback period’ – the difference between the initial cost of a high versus low efficiency appliance and the long-term savings in lower electricity and water bills, is only a matter of a few months to a few years. After that, you are laughing all the way to the bank, and doing something meaningful to combat climate change at the same time.
