In which early settlers established farms

Answers

Answer:

Brainiest

Explanation:

Settlement of America’s Appalachian river valleys began in the late 1720s. The colony of Virginia enacted land policies to attract settlers to create a buffer of Protestant farmers on the colony’s western frontier. Virginia granted large blocks of western land to individuals and companies with the requirement that it be divided and sold to settler families within a few years. To meet this requirement, grantees offered land in parcels up to several hundred acres in size on easy terms. Virginia’s land policy attracted diverse groups of Old World settlers to its western frontier, or “back-country.” This encounter between different ethnic groups in western Virginia shaped American culture for generations to come.

Book One

Athena addresses the gods regarding odysseus' current state. Poseidon caused Odysseus to be held captive by Calypso and Athena argued that he should be freed. Zeus contemplates this and eventually gives in, sending Hermes to order Calypso to let Odysseus go. Athena also leaves to help Telemachus, since Ithaca had been overrun with suitors.

Book Two

Telemachus hosts a meeting with the town's men, asking them to help his mother in warding off the suitors. Antinous explains that Penelope had been tricking them with weaving and unraveling a project every day. Zeus then sends eagles to attack the suitors which is interpreted as a bad omen. Telemachus gives Antinous a death threat because of his disrespect and then leaves in search of his father.

Book Three

They reach Pylos and find Trojan War heroes, including Nestor. Nestor tells him that Odysseus survived the war and had been sailing back. He sent Telemachus to Sparta to talk with Menelaus, since he may know about where Odysseus is.

Book Four

He reaches Menelaus' kingdom. Menelaus says that he knows of Odysseus' whereabouts and explains his detour in Egypt. He had to pin down "Old Man of the Sea", who can shape-shift, to get home. He told them how to get home and also that Odysseus was stuck on Calypso's island. Meanwhile, the suitors plan on ambushing Telemachus on his return.

Book Five

Hermes arrives at Calypso's island and tells her to let Odysseus go home. She is heartbroken but tells Odysseus anyways, who was very skeptical about it. He builds a raft and sails home. Poseidon finally realizes that the other gods are helping Odysseus and smashes his raft to bits. Odysseus swims for many many hours and eventually finds land. He falls asleep from exhaustion immediately.

Spoiler: Athena helps him get home. He kills everyone. Happy Ending.

What do you know about the current Black Lives Matter movement? How is it similar to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s? How is it different?

Answers

Answer:

The Black Lives Matter protests that have followed the killings of George Floyd  and  Breonna Taylor by police officers remind Margaret Burnham of 1968. At that time, the national response to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. combined with ongoing protests over civil rights and the Vietnam War to plunge an already divided nation more deeply into turmoil.

“This is taking place in a world that is not only deeply fractured, but also deeply fragile because of the coronavirus, the economic crisis that makes the country look a little bit like 1929, and the existential threat of climate change,” says Burnham, university distinguished professor of law at Northeastern. “It’s everything collapsing all around us.”

NourseChapter 1. Trouble Times TwoThe sun was glowing dull red as it slipped down behind the curving horizon of Mars, but Gregory Hunter was not able to see it.There was no viewscreen in the ship's cabin; it was too tiny for that. Greg twisted around in the cockpit that had been built just big enough to hold him, and shifted his long legs against the brace-webbing, trying to get them comfortable. He knew he was afraid ... but nobody else knew that, not even the captain waiting at the control board on the satellite, and in spite of the fear Greg Hunter would not have traded places at this moment with anyone else in the universe. He had worked too hard and waited too long for this moment. He heard the count-down monitor clicking in his ears, and his hands clenched into fists. How far from Mars would he be 10 minutes from now? He didn't know. Farther than any man had ever traveled before in the space of 10 minutes, he knew, and faster. How far and how fast would depend on him alone."All set, Greg?" It was the captain's voice in the earphones."All set, Captain.""You understand the program?"Greg nodded. "24 hours out, 24 hours back, 90 degrees to the ecliptic1, and all the acceleration2 I can stand both ways."Greg grinned to himself. He thought of the months of conditioning he had gone through to prepare for this run ... the hours in the centrifuge to build up his tolerance to acceleration, the careful diet, the rigorous hours of physical conditioning. It was only one experiment, one tiny step in the work that could someday give men the stars, but to Gregory Hunter at this moment it was everything."Good luck, then." The captain cut off, and the blastoff buzzer sounded. He was off. His heart hammered in his throat, and his eyes ached fiercely, but he paid no attention. His finger crept to the air-speed indicator, then to the cut-off switch. When the pressure became too great, when he began to black out, he would press it.But not yet. It was speed they wanted; they had to know how much acceleration a man could take for how long and still survive, and now it was up to him to show them.Fleetingly, he thought of Tom ... poor old stick-in-the-mud Tom, working away in his grubby little Mars-bound laboratory, watching bacteria grow. Tom could never have qualified for a job like this. Tom couldn't even go into free-fall for 10 minutes without getting sick all over the place. Greg felt a surge of pity for his brother, and then a twinge of malicious anticipation. Wait until Tom heard the reports on this run! It was all right to spend your time poking around with bottles and test tubes if you couldn't do anything else, but it took something special to pilot an XP ship for Project Star-Jump. And after this run was over, even Tom would have to admit it....There was a lurch, and quite suddenly the enormous pressure was gone.Something was wrong. He hadn't pushed the cut-off button, yet the ship's engines were suddenly silent. He jabbed at the power switch. Nothing happened. Then the side-jets sputted, and he was slammed sideways into the cot.He snapped on the radio speaker. "Control ... can you hear me? Something's gone wrong out here...."1The great circle that is the apparent path of the Sun.2The process of moving faster or happening more quickly.------------------------Now that you have read the passage, you will write an informational response paragraph to answer the following question:How does this story create a feeling of tension or conflict?Read the directions carefully so you know what to include in your essay.Begin your paragraph by rephrasing the question into a topic sentence. What was Nat Turner most known for?A. Preaching sermons among slavesB. Helping slaves learn to read and write.C. Leading a rebellion that killed 55 Whites.D. Proposing the idea for the cotton gin I need help with this math work I remember well the remark made to me once by one of my teachersand a very good teacher, too, who nevertheless did not see what her own observation ought to have suggested. School-children, she said, regard teachers as their natural enemies. The thought which it would have been logical to suppose would have followed this observation is, that if children in general are possessed of that notion, it is because there is a great deal in the teachers treatment of them which runs counter to the childs nature: that possibly this is so, not because of natural cussedness on the part of the child, but because of inapplicability of the knowledge taught, or the manner of teaching it, or both, to the mental and physical needs of the child. I am quite sure no such thought entered my teachers mind,at least regarding the system of knowledge to be imposed; being a sensible woman, she perhaps occasionally admitted to herself that she might make mistakes in applying the rules, but that the body of knowledge to be taught was indispensable, and must somehow be injected into childrens heads, under threat of punishment, if necessary, I am sure she never questioned. It did not occur to her any more than to most teachers, that the first business of an educator should be to find out what are the needs, aptitudes, and tendencies of children, before he or she attempts to outline a body of knowledge to be taught, or rules for teaching it. It does not occur to them that the childs question, What do I have to learn that for? is a perfectly legitimate question; and if the teacher cannot answer it to the childs satisfaction, something is wrong either with the thing taught, or with the teaching; either the thing taught is out of rapport with the childs age, or his natural tendencies, or his condition of development; or the method by which it is taught repels him, disgusts him, or at best fails to interest him. When a child says, I dont see why I have to know that; I cant remember it anyway, he is voicing a very reasonable protest. Of course, there are plenty of instances of wilful shirking, where a little effort can overcome the slackness of memory; but every teacher who is honest enough to reckon with himself knows he cannot give a sensible reason why things are to be taught which have so little to do with the childs life that to-morrow, or the day after examination, they will be forgotten; things which he himself could not remember were he not repeating them year in and year out, as a matter of his trade. And every teacher who has thought at all for himself about the essential nature of the young humanity he is dealing with, knows that six hours of daily herding and in-penning of young, active bodies and limbs, accompanied by the additional injunction that no feet are to be shuffled, no whispers exchanged, and no paper wads thrown, is a frightful violation of all the laws of young life. Any gardener who should attempt to raise healthy, beautiful, and fruitful plants by outraging all those plants instinctive wants and searchings, would meet as his rewardsickly plants, ugly plants, sterile plants, dead plants. He will not do it; he will watch very carefully to see whether they like much sunlight, or considerable shade, whether they thrive on much water or get drowned in it, whether they like sandy soil, or fat mucky soil; the plant itself will indicate to him when he is doing the right thing. And every gardener will watch for indications with great anxiety. If he finds the plant revolts against his experiments, he will desist at once, and try something else; if he finds it thrives, he will emphasize the particular treatment so long as it seems beneficial. But what he will surely not do, will be to prepare a certain area of ground all just alike, with equal chances of sun and amount of moisture in every part, and then plant everything together without discrimination, mighty close together!saying beforehand, If plants dont want to thrive on this, they ought to want to; and if they are stubborn about it, they must be made to.In the context of the passage as a whole, the authors description of her teachers views in the middle of the first paragraph (I am quite . . . questioned) is best characterized as afrank reconsideration of an early assessment of the teachers intelligenceAcareful reflection on the biases that influenced her teachers judgmentBcalculated effort to expose an unfit teacher to the publics disapprovalCsatisfying resolution to a long-standing puzzle from the authors youthDmoving depiction of the lasting effects of a painful childhood eventE Two Step Inequality Math problems classify point CA. centroid B. circumcenter C. orthocenterD. incenter PLS HELP PLS the image below is related to impressionism because of its:1.) indoor setting 2.) formless figures 3.) dark colored shadows 4.) asymmetrical composition If your former employee has filed a lawsuit against you for terminating his employment, you are the: helpppp meeeeeeeeeeeeeee The angle between A = (-25 m)i +(45 m), and the positive e axis is Redraw the graph so that it is not misleading. 2,100,000 is what percent of 3,000,000 DIRECT PROPORTION EQUATION QUESTIONSQ1)y is directly proportional to x.When x = 500, y = 10a)Find a formula for y in terms ofx.b)Calculate the value of y when x=350 write a complete sentence that starts with as.
